Gerhard A. Meinl Receives Major International Music Award

On March 5, during the Frankfurt Music Fair, JA Musik GmbH Markneukirchen Managing Director Gerhard A. Meinl, in his capacity as President of the National Association of German Musical Instrument Manufacturers (BDMH), was awarded the International Music Federation's (CISM) Gold Medal for Distinguished Services. In the presence of the German National President and former Minister of State, Dr. Gerhard Weiser, the Secretary General of the CISM paid tribute above all to Meinl's hono rary services and exemplary sense of commitment in promoting young and rising musical generations. Attention was drawn in particular to the role played by Meinl in a campaign implemented in Württemberg designed to increase the number of young tuba pl ayers as well as to his firm backing given to musical education in general at state schools

Gerhard A. Meinl awarded German Order of Merit

In mid September, the Germany Federal Order of Merit was conferred upon Gerhard A. Meinl for distinguished services as a highly committed citizen, entrepreneur and patron of the arts. This token of honor reflects Meinl's enterprising spirit in building up a flourishing enterprise with an employment figure by far exceeding 200 which, for the past ten years or so, has continued to be regarded as the dynamo of the German Music Industry. Meinl is a staunch promoter of musical training among young persons. Worthy of mention in this context is his honorary commitment in the field of class music-making activities. His fine services in building up the Vogtland Music Industry and putting it on a solid basis are worth emphasizing in particular. This has not only succeeded in saving existing jobs, but also in creating a whole number of new ones. It has also resulted in motivating other manufacturing companies to transfer their businesses to Vogtland, one of Germany's legendary musical areas.

The list of functions Gerhard A. Meinl exercises in an honorary capacity is too overwhelming to quote here. They range from key commitments in his town of Geretsried and his company's various production locations, which apart from Vogtland also include sites in Hungary, Paris and Amboise.
Notwithstanding all these responsibilities, he recently accepted the appointment to preside over the
Confederation of European Music Industries (CAFIM).

Gerhard A. Meinl pointed out that he would never have succeeded in fulfilling his secondary offices
and honorary functions, had it not been for the tremendous support he had received.

The high esteem in which Gerhard A. Meinl is held is borne out by the fact that none other than the
Minister-President of the Free State of Bavaria resolved to confer the award personally during a
ceremony held in the State Chancellery on 15 October.

TA Musik GmbH changes into JA Musik GmbH

Ten years ago, Gerhard A. Meinl sold his family owned business, the brasswind production company Wenzel Meinl GmbH from Geretsried (Germany) to the German listed company TA Triumph-Adler AG and built and managed from then on the wood- and brasswind division within this conglomerate.

Together with this financially strong mother company, the former state owned East German Blechblas- und Signal-Instrumentenfabrik in Markneukirchen was acquired, restructured and transformed into the today's successful Vogtlaendische Musikinstrumentenfabrik GmbH. Alongside, the famous oboe-production and wholesale company SML Strasser-Marigaux S.A.S. in France as well as the brasswind production company Antoine Courtois S.A.S., founded in 1803, were acquired and incooperated into the group.

Like this, the TA Musik Group developed into an important set of European woodwind and brasswind production companies for high end professional instruments. Still in this year, Sternberg Kft, a newly founded production firm in Hungary, is going to join the group.

As part of the focussing strategy on the Experts @ Output division, TA Triumph-Adler AG sold TA Musik GmbH within a Management Buy Out to a group of managers formed around the long term division manager Gerhard A. Meinl. At the beginning of August 2001, the group acquired 100% of shares of TA Musik GmbH which continues to operate as a management holding company for this group of musical instrument manufacturers. As part of the acquisition, the company will change its name into JA Musik GmbH.

Together with the 44 year old lawyer Gerhard A. Meinl, who is also a trained craftsmen for instrument building and actual President of the "Bundesverband Deutscher Musikinstrumentenhersteller" as well as first Chairman of "Dachverband Deutsche Musikwirtschaft und Veranstaltungstechnik", Jakob Freiherr von Wolff , business graduate from Universities in the UK and Spain and investment manager at TA Triumph-Adler AG, takes over the Finance and Operations Office for the JA Musik Group. Additionally, the executive officer of Vogtlaendische Musikinstrumentenfabrik GmbH and Wenzel Meinl GmbH, Mr. Ferdinand Kleinschmidt, who is not only a tuba graduate from Detmold University but also a trained craftsman for tool-making and instrument manufacturing as well as Dipl. Ing. Siebert Bernsau, executive officer of Vogtlaendische Musikinstrumentenfabrik GmbH and former long term production manager at the type writer production plants of TA Triumph-Alder AG in Frankfurt, joined the MBO-team.

This management-team, as new owner of the group, endeavours to continue to establish a leading position in the high quality step-up and professional instrument manufacturing together with a clear branding strategy within the group. Consequently, group-economies in the areas of production, sales and administration are going to be extensively used. As a high priority, the world-wide leading position for certain instruments will be kept and further developed; this always with the excellent contacts to the top-professional musicians and orchestras around the world.

International sales will continue to be based on long term whole-sale and retail business contacts. Currently the Group has an excellent order situation and production capacity is already booked out long into the year 2002.
